Céleste Moneger lives and works in the Paris region. She holds a degree from the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and is also completing her National Higher Diploma in Fine Arts at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. She has additionally participated in an exchange program at Central Saint Martins in London. Céleste develops work at the intersection of essay film and video installation.
Her work explores the influence of collective and ideological narratives on our personal trajectories and individual identities, examining how stories, whether personal or imposed by cultural and media systems, shape our relationship to the world. Between first-person narratives, moving images, and science fiction, Céleste observes the collusions, contradictions, and fractures that run through our societies, while seeking sensitive and narrative avenues of escape. She subverts established codes of contemporary imagery to reveal the hidden contours of our patterns, biases, and relationships. Her practice combines desktop movie techniques, archival footage, cut paper, and anything that can be scanned or filmed. These materials serve to create fragmented and immersive visual narratives, turning appearance and superficiality into a surface to scratch in order to uncover deeper individual and collective phenomena. Her work offers a perspective that is both critical and poetic on the contemporary world.
